Houston Texans vs Kansas City Chiefs Preview
The Super Bowl champion Chiefs will be hoping for a repeat performance of last year’s divisional round when they meet the Texans in Friday’s season opener from Arrowhead.
Kansas City has opened as the odds-on favourites in the market following a very challenging offseason for just about everyone in the league.
The Chiefs famously clawed their way back from a 24-0 deficit against the Texans during last year’s playoffs to score a playoff record seven consecutive touchdowns over their next eight drives.
With that in mind, it is no surprise to find a very high Points Line (54.5) heading into their rematch.
The pandemic aside, the Texans have faced their own challenges this offseason in the form of scrutiny.
Houston chose to trade away star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in a swap with the Arizona Cardinals for running back David Johnson, a move that likely turns out to be a complete catastrophe rather than a stroke of genius.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, added another weapon to their backfield by selecting talented LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the first round of the draft.
Now joining the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, Kansas City’s newest addition spells potential disaster for a Texans defence that allowed the fifth-most yards to opponents last year.
The crowd normally plays a huge factor at Arrowhead, but an empty stadium might just put these two teams at ease and help limit their mistakes.
The Total has gone Over in each of Kansas City’s last five season openers, so we’re taking the Chiefs and the Over to ensure some value.
