FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Lyon scored two goals in the first half, kept a perfect defense and advanced to the Champions League semifinals by beating Manchester City 3-1 on Tuesday.

The French side will face either Atletico Madrid or Juventus in the final. Lyon advanced in the first knockout round for the first time since 1991.

Lyon got a goal in the fourth minute when Corentin Tolisso fired in a header from the top of the area after midfielder Nabil Fekir sent a long cross into the penalty area.

Midfielder Keita Balde got his first Champions League goal in the 27th when he deflected a shot by Morgan Schneiderlin to beat goalkeeper Ederson and send the home fans into a frenzy.

Balde took advantage of a weak clearance by center back Nicolas Otamendi to put Lyon ahead 3-0 just before halftime.

Gabriel Jesus converted a penalty in the 59th to pull one back but that was the closest the English club came after qualifying for the last eight with a 4-3 home win over Lyon.
